The first Greek Branch of the American Bank of Albania (in Athens) was approved by the Government of the United States of America, and received its license (171/23/4/2004) by the Bank of Greece to operate and provide banking services in Greece. The Greek Branch has also received the license from the Greek Ministry of Development (decision K2- 7200/9/6/2004).
As required by the Greek Law, American Bank of Albania – Greek Branch started with an initial capital of EUR 9 Million. More than 2 (two) Million Euros have been invested in premises and technology including satellite communication.
The Bank insures in Greece, as per Greek Banking Law and EU Regulatory requirements, the deposits of its customers which are guaranteed up to the amount of EUR 20,000.00 per account by the Deposits Guarantee Fund (Tameio Eksasfalisis Katatheseon). The Bank further insures, as required by law, the deposits of its customers in Albania through the A.S.D. Insurance Agency of Deposits (Agjencia Sigurimit te Depositave) up to the amount of 700.000Lek.
On 14 April 2006 opened its second branch in Greece. The Thessaloniki branch marks another important step in ABA’s strategy to be closer to the Albanian communities living and working in Greece, whereby it can provide them with its wide range of quality services and products.
In opening this new branch ABA wants to extend its commitment to serving all Albanian citizens living and working in Greece as well as to establish a long-term partnership with Albanian and Greek businesses operating between both of our countries.
